This is the simpler of the two stock programs I have written. The other one tracks and analyses all stocks ( currently 10,000 +, limited only by how many symbols are entered ) in a database, with daily updates from the Internet for all issues, and user-defined filter criteria of my own design. It is not available for public release at this time.
My background includes computers, programming, HVAC, DDC, BAS, music, and other things. I am always interested in business propositions :-)
In mid - April, 2000 , I started throwing together a little program to help me in researching stocks. I realized that, when 'doing my DD' ( Due Diligence, as traders are fond of saying ), or research, there were certain patterns that I followed. I had my own set of Web resource links that I like to use, and I set up my browser 'Home Page' to show them as HTML links. I would then click the various links, entering a stock symbol on each, logging in to registered services as needed, etc. StockMon is a program I wrote to simplify that process for myself.
On the Research screen, StockMon opens up a user-defined list of URLs, in what are actually up to 30 simultaneous browser sessions, plugging the stock symbol into each one. This user-configured list of web pages then allows much quicker switching between websites ( as compared to using one browser window ), because the pages will be pre-loaded and retained ( for the session only ). The current version comes with 80 + stock links pre-loaded, you can add as many as you want.
On the ChartTracker screen, StockMon can open up 15 intra-day charts, again by user-configured list, with user-defined update intervals, for monitoring intra-day performance. Unlimited user-defined portfolios of up to 15 stocks each. Each stock has a 'quick news' button to link to information on the stock. The user can define a list of web sites that appear as a pop-up menu over the charts when you click on them, for quick redirection to your favorite web sites.
On the GridTracker screen, StockMon can track up to 50 entries per portfolio ( unlimited portfolios ), and updates once a minute ( unless you change it ) with one URL call per update ( one call for the entire grid of 50 stocks, which makes it fast, and keeps web usage to a minimum for those of you using this at work :-) ). 20 minute delayed quotes only at this time. Clicking on any line of the grid opens up links for that stock, such as news, charts, etc. The lines are automatically color coded according to performance ( gain / loss ). You can also track holdings ( including multiple buy prices per stock ) and track their performance. The grid also color-codes automatically to show profit / loss / intraday movement. The user can define a list of web sites that appear as a pop-up menu over the grid when you click on it, for quick redirection to your favorite web sites.
On the Multibrowser screen, StockMon can open 4 user-configured browsers that are re-sizeable.
This program is freeware. Download it here. It requires the Microsoft VB 6 run-time library called Msvbvm60.dll, if you don't have it already in your Windows / System directory ( check and see - you might not need to download this 1 meg file again ). Get a self-installing EXE of the VB 6 run-time direct from Microsoft here.
